London Flat
My own flat in London. My husband and I renovated a ground-floor flat in Belsize Park by combining two small apartments into one and building a large extension across the rear of the house. It was truly a labour of love! I designed everything myself (with his input, of course), from the windows and doors to the kitchen and bathroom cabinets. The finished result is, I think, a true reflection of my style at this particular moment. It is a blend of old and new. There is a strong sense of traditional nostalgia in the front sitting room, but then in the back of the flat things feel a bit fresher and more modern. That is very relevant to how I approach thinking about design. I like to borrow ideas and styles from different eras and put them together to make something new, but not so new that it feels foreign. And this flat has all kinds of colour and energy, which is another important strand of my thinking about design. I want to inject colour, texture, warmth and personality.
