Belsize Park Flat

This is my former flat in Belsize Park, where I lived for several years with my husband and dogs. In many ways, it’s a starting point for my career in design. When we found the flat and started to extend and renovate, I was working as a lawyer for an American law firm in London. So I’d sit at my desk in the firm’s offices, pretending to work on legal things while I was actually trying to figure out how to arrange furniture in the sitting room… A short while after we moved in, I decided it was time to switch careers.

I look at this flat now and think of how much better I could do today, but then it’s still nice to remember it as a jumping off point for my career to date. And I think it shows the threads that can be identified in my development as a designer. There is colour, a mixture of time periods, a feeling of soul and an emphasis on architectural proportion and detailing.
